Top 5 U.K. Campsites

Camping in the U.K is an experience all its own. It is not a part of the world particularly renowned for its weather, so be prepared, this is not South of France. If you are not interested in being laden with mud and setting up shop in the woods for a few nights, I recommend finding an apartment with either couchsurfing or Wimdu. Those of you that prefer the comforts of home ought to look away now.

What the U.K lacks in desirable weather it makes up for in hospitality, eccentricity and a charm and allure all its own. Below is a list of, what I consider, and many commentators before me have considered to be the best of the best in campsites.

Cue dramatic music and dimming of the lights, in descending order, those sites are:

5. THREE CLIFFS BAY

Under normal circumstances I would avoid Swansea, I have nothing against the Welsh, they are a wonderful people, I simply find the city highly charged and a touch bizarre. It is then fortunate, for me at least, that this idyllic site offers up space just 20 minutes outside the city. It offers up gorgeous views and a chance to authentically experience the Gower coastline.

4. BAY VIEW FARM

Another pick for the views. It’s one of the main reasons to brave the weather and camp after all. At Bay view, you will get exactly what it says on the tin, Bay View’s. They are in fact doing themselves a slight disservice, as the name is simply not evocative of the Cornish charm on offer here.

3. FISHER GROUND CAMPSITE

Although this choice is in the Lake District, which is undoubtedly one of the U.K’s most picturesque gems, however, I am not recommending it solely because of this. This is included for those of you with young children. Of course they will get to experience the area in all its natural beauty but too experience a whole world of fun catered for by the campsite. If you feel like taking the kids and escaping the city for the weekend, or longer perhaps, consider fisher ground.

2. BURROW HAYES CAMPSITE

Horse riding, once again a wonderful landscape, what more could you need!
Cue dramatic build up spiel. We have come to the pole position…ok, I’ll spare you, here goes. At number one position is?

1. BLACKBERRY WOOD

With a name so idyllic, how could it not place at the top spot. Situated in a cosy woodland area and close enough to Sussex main not to feel completely removed from civilisation, blackberry wood has everything one could want from the authentic British camping experience. You are sure to be roasting marshmallows and telling camp style ghost stories long into the night.
